Gave me a code 4- I DO NOT have any checks out

I went to the food store Krogers to buy a few things when I wrote them a check they ran it into Telecheck and told me I could not write a check and gave me their phone number. I have Not written a Hot check and have no reason as to why their picking on me But it was very bad. Thank God I did have a Visa Check cashing card and was able to use my card. This sux
