We have been paying premiums for approximately 5 years on our credit cards with Wells Fargo. The insurance covers in the event my spouse looses his job, etc. My spouse lost his job on 2/24/09. I immediately called Wells Fargo to report this and was given the phone number of the insurance company, Assurant Insurance. I contacted them to get the claims we needed to fill out. We filled them out and returned them on 3/21/09 along with all of the information requested in the form. We have been dealing with this now for 3 months.
The insurance does not talk with us, they say we will know when the claims have been processed by looking at our statements with Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo tells us that it is our responsibility to contact the insurance company. I have mailed additional information and faxed it twice since March. The last time on 5/22/09.
On 5/22/09 after faxing we received a letter in the mail stating that "Unfortunately your claim form was completed before the benefits were due. You will be eligible for benefits after you have been unemployed for 31 days. You must resubmit all of your paperwork. I sent the information in March just four days before the 31 days, again in April 60 days after his termination and again in May which is now 90 days after his termination. Wells Fargo continues to contact us at the rate of approximately 100 calls per month for payment on our credit cards that we payed Wells Fargo the insurance on. We had no dealing with Assurant what so ever, until we needed to file a claim and was then told by Wells Fargo that we needed to go to Assurant as Wells Fargo was a third party in this. We were the third party and have been treated as such. I have even had calls from Wells Fargo telling me to let my home be forclosed on and live out of my vehicle so I can at least get to work to pay Wells Fargo. I was actually told this on more than one occasion. Where is the protection for the consumer?
