Glasses lens flaking after 14 months, no warranty

I am a dedicated Sears customer. I bought Sears glasses 14 months ago and now the Sears optical manager tells me my lens is flaking off but they ran out of warranty so I have to purchase a new pair. Is this what is going to happen to my new ones? Do I have to replace my glasses every 14 months? If so you can count me out as a customer? That is just wrong!!!
