Being sued because of their financial short coming

My wife and i leased a 2005 dodge ram 1500 quad cab pick up truck for a term of 39 months. For a payment of $380 per month and a $450 disposition fee at the end of term, and of course a lease buy out of $21,000 at the end of the lease. We had the ram truck for all of 38 months, until it was repo'd. And now i'm being sued for over $14,000 because that's the difference it was sold at auction and the residual value.
Lets start out with, I sold dodge automobiles for about 3 years, so sometimes do to the fact that employee purchase prices and every thing that Chrysler could do to sell the mass quantities of automobiles they had sitting around the lots, really cut into the oppertunity to make any money sometimes the payment was a little late. I always let Chrysler Financial know what was going on, and always took care of the late payment. I left the dodge dealer August because the auto market was sinking and it was sinking fast, with the high gas prices and interest rates were starting to rise also. I went to a job that was no longer commission and was getting a pay check that was the same amount of money every week, even let Chrysler know that I left the Dodge store and told them where i worked.in December my wife was diagnosed with cancer and had to have two surgeries in January and February, she was put on disability from her employer and once again our payment was going to be late, Since we were living on my salary alone, we called Chrysler and told them what was happening, and had made arrangements to make the payments but they would be late. My wife was out of work from December 07 till May 08, May came we were a month or two behind but we were still making payments to get caught up after my wife went back to work, in June my wife called Chrysler to make the arrangements to turn the truck in on the maturity date in July, and the rep from Chrysler reminded her that we owed 2.5 payments and that they do need to be paid she told the rep that we know and had planned on making them in the next two weeks so we would end the lease caught up and even. A few hours later the same Chrysler rep calls her back and tells her that they have some one in our area and could handle the lease turn in for her today and they would gladly picked up the car and rap this up for her, (well if i knew this was going on I wouldn't have let it happen, but it did) and Chrysler would send her the monthly invoice and it we could make the last two payments in June and we would get the bill for the disposition fee. Well they lied. I do not dispute the fact that I owe money about $1200, not $13000.00. We waited and never got the invoice my wife called and they then told her that they repo'd the truck and its been sold at auction and they will be suing for $14000.00, we never hid from Chrysler we were always up front about the problems we had, they worked with us, and always said it will effect any further leasing programs in the future. I am being sued for Chrysler's financial downfalls, I know I'm not the only one going through this. Why the hell would I allow a car to repo'd with one month to go on the lease. If there is anyone out there that can help me I would greatly appreciate it.
