Shopping Essentials - Classmates.com
While signing up for a Classmates.com gold membership, I was ripped off by Shopping Essentials and charged a monthly fee

In July I signed up for a gold membership with classmates.com for $19.95.in September, I noticed an unusual debit card purchase on my banks statement for $19.95 with a desription of shopping esset# 888-999-0564 CT. I called the number to find out what it was. I was told I consented to a free-trial of the membership on July 7 on classmates.com. The trial was 7 days and when I didn't cancel I was charged the membership fee.

I told Eric, the rep I was speaking with, that I have no knowledge of what he was talking about. I asked how he got my credit card info and he said, it was when I signed up with classmates.com. I told him I never authorized the charge. He said no problem, I would no longer be charged. I said, no longer, what about the charge I had already received? He said, "ok, I will credit that too, thanks for calling, " and quickly hung up on me.

I immediately contacted my bank. Then, I wondered why they would wait to bill me until September if I supposedly signed up for this. So I went back and looked at my statements. I was charged $19.95 on August 14, October 12, and September 10. I gave this info to my bank who is looking into it.

I also went to the classmates.com, logged in and clicked help and then Gold member offers. It had some questions and answers about shopping essentials including some sort of log in information that shopping essentials send out after registering. I never received this information and if I had I would have said to cancel it.

I noticed there was another complaint about the same time. This was reported to classmates, who has continued to do nothing about.By the reps response, it is obvious that shopping essentials knows that we did not consent. Beware when signing up for classmates.com!
