Fired after workers comp claim

Geico is a rip off both as an insurance company and an employer. They don't follow up on any promises they make. When I was hired I was told after training I would go on nights only until the next class graduated and then our class would get first choice for day shift. The class after us got the day shift and we were still stuck on 4pm to midnight. (only a few wanted that shift) When we complained this supervisor blamed that supervisor and so forth.

A lot of co-workers passed the buck to another co-worker for customers that were complainers or the ones they just did not want to handle. I always tried to treat them as I would want to be treated if I was on the other end. You have just been in an accident or having problems with your insurance, you don't want the run around. We were told to lie when we got a call that already had an adjuster assigned or was a different level than we were. We had to tell them we could not see their file, we could see every file except for employees and celebrities.

I am diabetic and allergic to leather, I was told to bring a letter from my dr stating this and that I needed to wear special shoes. There is a dress code for most of the people that work at Geico. I stepped on some loose floor tiles at Geico and fell. I told my supervisor about it who sent me to see the nurse. The nurse told me it was ok (my ankle) but if I felt I needed to see a Doctor I could only see their approved dr. I worked my shift all week because even though I got hurt at work if I went home or missed anytime for this work related injury if would count against me and unless I had sick time built up I would not get paid for it. Sunday my ankle was so swollen and painful I could not even stand on it-so I went to the E.R. (I live a two hour drive from Geico) they gave me a shot for pain and sent home pain pills and told me to stay off it, then use crutches. My son called in for me Monday morning and told them what was going on and that I was still sleeping from the painpill. I went in the next day and was told I could not come back to work until I saw their dr (which was more unpaid time off) I also turned in the paperwork from the hospital I went too Sunday night.

Even though it was a two hour drive for me to get to work and the dr office was by Geico, I was told I had to come three times a week for physical therp. So I had to either miss time from work or come on my day off. Either way I was spending or lossing money I did not have. I was filling my car with gas every other day. I was told I could not see a dr that was closer to me, so I could go on my day off, I had to go to physical therp and I had no choice in the matter. The next day I was at work an hour when Human Resources called me down (it took me 30 min to get from my parking space to the front of the building, 15-20 to get upstairs to my station) I was told the first time that I was in trouble for not calling in. When I told them about my son calling in and who he spoke too, it was "oh yeah, but you have to personally call in" then she said I could not be there w/o two shoes on. I had a brace on that was about the size of an aircast, how was I going to get a shoe on? She sent me home. Next day same thing, only I had forced my shoe on (I needed the money) she said my shoes were not appropriate for the office-Drs. Note was not good enough. I was called to her office every day that week with something else. Finally she said I could not prove where I was at that afternoon of my drs appt. When I told her I came back to work that afternoon to give the nurse the paperwork and told her I was going to see if I could start physical ther that afternoon after I had lunch so I would not have to take off anymore time (I also had two hours left on my shift) 1 1.2 hours after I made it back to my car. Oh, had I stayed by 15 min to get upstairs and about 15 min to log onto all my programs, so if I would have eaten at the Geico cafe my shift would have still been over and I would have to come back down to the first floor and to my car.in the end she used this excuse to fire me when the rest would not stick.

I was not a bad employee, not one that didnt show up for work or came in late. I was always on time and even worked overtime when needed. Only when I filed workers comp did all this start.

Gieco is a corrupt company at the level I work at and I complained about this my husband before I got hurt. But like I said I really needed the money and was willing to travel two hours there and two hours home. I had Geico insurance before I started working there, but cancelled it and went to another insurance company after I started working there and learned about the company.
