letter_to_editor: Maybe you should let your readers know this is how the Governor believes in the whole
" INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY" LAW
especially before you people start believing everything you read just because your so called
" Florida's Finest" wrote it...
To whom it may concern, or if there is anyone out there that may be concerned about the innocent. I am writing to you from Boston MA. And my son he was sent out there to go to college at Florida St. Thinking that this would be a safe yet positive atmosphere for him, I ended up being completely mistaken. Not only was he abandoned by the college itself, but also by the person he was rooming with. Who left out of state due to problems with the Police. My son was left out in the streets to fend for himself even though, he, myself and my family from Boston tried to help find him room and board there was no on out there willing to help him. He ended up hiding in dorm study rooms and having to sleep on the streets. At this time he was to pay a student there $10.00 a day to shower and get clean to be
able to go to work. Which was a 45 minute bike ride away.
Not knowing the law he was stopped by the the police at 1am in the morning by what you would call ' Florida's finest", Deptuy T.W. And his partner in crime, spokeswoman K.C.By what they called " LOOKING SUSPICION and going on a "GUT FEELING"? Now could you please explain to me what "looking suspicious" looks like and what a gut feeling feels like? These officers took my sons phone and all his possessions and then proceeded to call my home in MA. At 1:00AM and speak to my minor
child, NOT acknowledging that they were officers, continued to questions my child. After telling my son to hang up on this officer, they proceeded to call me back, now at both times this officer, still not acknowledging themselves as officers, called from my sons cell phone. I asked what they were calling my house for at 1AM in the morning and he proceeded to tell me that he said
my sons cell was lost and wanted to make sure it belong to him.
AGAIN not acknowledging themselves as officers decided to question me about my son. These officers lied to me and continued to do so till I asked them to tell me the truth on what the problem was. They told me they were calling from a 24 hour Wallmart and was looking to offer my son a job. I said at 1AM? I then said I wanted to speak to him, they told me he was no longer in front of them he was in another room. Now not only did they call here and question a minor about himself and other member's of his family, but they never acknowledged themselves as officers to either myself or my child. Now I know that this is not a big deal to this state, but
it is a big clue to me of how the law there is respected by it's own. They then called me the next morning telling me they are holding him on stolen credit cards and LOITERING OR PROWLING. This I bailed him out for $25.00 and at the time of release they should of given
him his cell phone which was NOT stolen and his other belongings including a notebook computer. When asked if that was stolen along with his cell phone he said no they said, "ya right" and continued to keep it go through it and found multiple POSS PHOTO CHILD SEX PERF.
At first it seemed that these charges were very few and as I continued to look at this case they became longer and longer. As I was told, but am not sure, they said my son was told his MIRANDA rights and was asked if he understood these and if they could go through his belongings. He said yes, in FEAR of the cops,
the state, and the fact that he has no one there. Let me also state this was all asked without a lawyer present. Now I am looking at a bond of over a HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS, which is out of any normal person reach. Let me say this kid has NEVER BEEN ARRESTED BEFORE in MA or FLORIDA and has NEVER been in trouble with the law. He was also told if he did what they said and signed what they wanted him to he would be
able to be released. So believing in the law and the police my son did so. Not knowing a thing he was signing or saying. Now I know what the police write or say is written in stone. Unfortunately this is not always the case. My son had NO lawyer to advise him, NO understanding of what was happening to him, No way of talking to his family, and ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA OF WHAT HE WAS ANSWERING TO.
I am a single mom of four children, one whom recently had open heart surgery and a younger brother who has ADHD. Being the oldest of these boys, he took the responsibility on as raising them himself and did a damn good job. His father left him when he was 10 yrs. Old and has not seen him since, this took a toll on my sons self esteem and hurt him deeply. He also has ADHD and was very small for his age, this also taking a toll. Being the only parent he has, I have gone through multiple surgeries for Cancer and he has had to watch all of this happen, yet he still turned out to be a wonderful, law abiding citizen. We are not, by any means well off, and have been looking for a lawyer who believes in the
law and given a person a second chance, who has absolutely never harmed anyone. He didn't take these pictures nor did he download them. They were on the computer before he found it. He is not computer literate enough to have done all this. I don't know where
to look or who to ask for help at this point because I don't think anyone really cares about the innocent anymore. But I do know that I don't have alot of time left and I can not have my son sent to prison
for something he had no idea what was going on. My son has been going through hell down there ALL ALONE, yet the people who put this on the net run free. Let me also mention, the jail officers are unbelievably rude, disrespectful and treat these people like dogs in cages. They have treated me with the utmost disrespect
when I call to ask for help. I would be ashamed to work for such a state that treats the, "innocent until proven guilty" the way these officers are allowed. I will be sending some letters out to the news papers, Internet as well as anyone who will listen. We are all human beings and should be treated as such.
NO ONE IS BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE. Who decided they
can make these judgments other than GOD? Now, I know, no one cares that my son hasn't been treated fairly and given his legal rights, but I am hoping that someone who gets this email will stand up for the ones who can't and not be afraid of themselves and the law, that is clearly being miss used on these inmates. It truly is sad.
I don't understand our government. I'm sending this letter to anyone who may care about helping the
innocent and the people who don't have pockets full of green paper, but hearts full of love for family.
The Governer sent me an answer to me email to him and this was my reply in extreme frustration... Still feeling like I am getting no justice or help at all...
Governor of Florida,
First let me thank you for getting back to me and letting me know what the Governor actually thinks of the innocent. However, you have helped me in no way possible. What I would like to know is how is it possible that a child/man can be stopped at 1am in the morning by what you would call ' Florida's finest", Deputy T.W. Let me try to explain something to you, they stopped my child, questioned him without a lawyer present, no understanding of Florida laws and no family near by. Not only did they go through his property without a warrant, found this laptop that was stolen, we know this because it was reported stolen, "BIG CLUE", but yet they had my son to say it was his. They also told him if he cooperated, as in signing papers and saying what they wanted to hear. It would help him from having any other charges being brought upon him. Now, if my son was to do all they said, why in the world would he give them his real name and date of birth?
Again, another question for your Governor.
Now, I don't know how it works in Florida, but being a para legal in MA, we do not by any means stop, question, search or arrest anyone without probable cause. NOT A GUT FEELING! I didn't know there was a Florida law on when you can ride a bike. So please explain to me why they have my child in 24 hour LOCK DOWN with no family, no friends and clearly no justice? He was never offered an appeals hearing on the case and nor was there asked for a bail reduction. To me it sounds like Florida law works in mysterious ways. And considering I have recently been doing alot of research in Florida laws I am wondering how this could have been allowed to happen let alone not be looked into BEFORE such a ridiculous bail was put on a person with a record cleaner than the governors desk.
Now could you please ask your Governor to explain that to me? We all know that the Governor has his hands in all and can help anyone he feels fit, so please don't tell me that he can do nothing, because we all know better. I will be sending all this information to every news paper, TV station and Internet access I can get my hands on in Florida to find out if someone might know these answers. So before you copy and paste me another letter please consider the fact that it will also be copied and pasted to many of the towns people and electives I can reach. I can not believe your Governor does not have a moment to look into someones young innocent life.in this case two. MINE AND HIS!!!
But please let me thank you again for answering my letter, it clearly meant nothing to your governing of how important it is to uphold the law.
