I bought a sunpass with the hopes of making my life easier just as did so many Floridians. The dream of flying through the sunpass lane as others sat in toll lines was the vision I painted in my mind when buying a sunpass.
Well that vision turned grim quickly. The first day I got my sunpass I went home and registered it on the sunpass website along with my license plate number as instructed.
The next day I went out to use the sunpass and there was no noise, I assumed since it was the new version they made it quiet so you didnt have to hear that beeep sound everytime you went through a plaza. So I used it on my way back home.
This time on my way home it did beep and worked perfectly. I thought, wow great this is really helpful. I had set my account to auto-renew so my balance would always stay above a $5 dollar limit. Little did I know that didnt matter.
After I had gone through the sun pass lane about 10 times I noticed the low balance light would come on and then eventually the sun pass had a no balance beep. So I called after several weeks of the weird beep to find out what happen with my sun pass.
The operator checked all the information and said the auto renew was still on and that the vehicle was registered but yet I had 2 violations pending! So I had her take care of them and pay them off.
Long story short...
They sent me a new sunpass and the problem became worse so I stopped using sunpass totally. So happens they sent two violations the county clerk and they fined me $195.75 per citation on a toll that cost $. 75!
Now thats a Scam if you ask me...
And my parents had the same exact problem and now an attorney is working on her case.
