My husband and I went through some rough times a few years ago, given the fact that we were both divorced and starting over. I got a Cross Country Bank Credit Card, with the hopes that I would be rebuilding my credit. For years I never had a late payment or anything, perfect credit history! This past June of we were hit with some hard times, and rather than just letting our credit get all beat up again, I decided to go through GreenPath Debt Consolidation.
Every company that we had any type of credit with was wonderful! Lowered our interest, stopped late & past due fees and we were on our road to recovery... Or so we thought. Cross Country Bank started with the letters and the phone calls. Our account wasn't even late yet, but the fact that we had written this letter was enough to get the ball rolling in their eyes. They called me morning noon and night. Both at home, and at work. They told everyone they came in contact with that they were calling regarding a past due balance that I had with their company, that it needed to be resolved immediately and that I needed to return their call to them asap or they would take further action "blah blah blah".
Well, my co-workers were told this, so I was the talk of the office. How embarrassing and humiliating. They would leave these messages with my kids who are 12 & 16 years old! When I would call them and BEG them not to do that to my kids and work I was told they could do whatever it took to get their money. This has been going on for 3 months now. About a dozen or more proposals have been sent to them by Greenbath so an amount can be agreed upon and we can get the ball rolling.
Every proposal sent has either been lost, never received, etc. When they finally do receive it, along with the payment, they send it BACK TO GREENPATH, money included and refuse it, saying it's not enough money. Which then starts the process all over. They say it's no longer $35 needed, but $37 and we start again. They also have now tacked on every fee imaginable to what I owe and are demanding close to $400 before they'll stop these harrassing phone calls and letters. Someone called me tonight, when my daughter answered he proceeded to start talking to her.
I grabbed the phone, I was furious, she's only 12 and doesn't need to know her mother is having this problem. I do admit I yelled when I said this, I don't know how much more I can take. He didn't say anything at first, but I could hear some noises, then he said (while giggling) please repeat everything you've just said to me. So now they turn it around and try to tape record me, after what they did. I haven't kept track of all this but I wish I would have. This one company is ruining my life. I called them back and demanding to speak to a manager but all I got was a customer service rep.
Once again, she started telling me that they can do whatever they need to do to get their money, that they have every right, I asked even if it was at the cost of hurting my children? She said they wouldn't do it intentionally, but it is possible. My husband got on the phone and said they've have to quit harrassing us, right away she said "I don't have to talk to you, you're not on the account" (without evening knowing who he was) and she hung up on us! Somebody please give us some advice! We are doing everything we can to get this taken care of. I refuse to pay them all those fees... I haven't even gotten a complete statement in 2 months, only collection letters.
HELP! I doubt I'm the only one going through this right now, if anyone has any advice on what we can do to make this stop, please advise. Thank you.
