We purchased a brand new home in February.in October, we found live termites. When our bond holder came to inspect the area, he informed us that the house had been treated for a live infestation previously. We told him that he must be mistaken-that we purchased it new. New.
He sent us a copy of the treatment report. Our house was drilled and treated 7 days prior to our closing. The sad thing is that there is nothing we can do without paying out of pocket to have core samples done throughout the house to determine the extent of damage.
We do not want to pay thousands of dollars to have our house drilled and repaired. Therefore, we just want to make the public aware that home builders are not required to provide a Wood Destroying Organism report on a new home, but make sure that you ask for one. The law allows builders to blatantly lie to consumers and get away with it.
We do not understand how a law can exist that forbids a real estate company to sell a home with known termite infestation but seems to uphold a builder knowing and selling without even mentioning the same.
