Ripoff Hiring Process a NIGHTMARE!

My son and I applied to this company via the internet and we were then sent a "paper" application to fill out and fax back.

After having filled out the application I realized there was not enough room for all of my work history so I included a copy of my resume to "fill in the blanks".
I then called the recruiter immediately after faxing it to confirm she received it and to let her know why I included the resume. She acknowledged and I then remained in contact with her on a daily basis.
We decided to go to orientation on a Wednesday and I called and re-confirmed with her that everything was "good to go".

She then eluded to the fact that I should also call orientaion myself... Never directly telling me to. I called and my son and I verbally confirmed ALL the info on the applications. It was at that point I realized something was wrong, none of the "additional" information I had provided on the resume had made it into their system.

We were also informed that if we chose to rent a car instead of taking a bus that we would be re-imbursed the cost of the bus tickets.

We arrived in Colton, Ca. On a Tuesday night and checked in at the hotel. They had no information on us but managed to provide a single and a roll out bed... The only room they had left.

Upon arriving at the terminal the next day we were surprised to discover that the application process was only just now beginning.

NONE of the info we provided prior to arrival had been verified, not just for us but for everyone that attended!!!

We remained until half way through the third day when, much to my surprise, were told that they did not want to hire us.

The reason they gave my son was "lack of experience" they already new that before we arrived. The real kick in the teeth was they told me the same thing!
Just to clarify, I have been driving for 25 years with NO TICKETS OR ACCIDENTS! I have driven almost every kind of tractor or trailer made for major companies like United Van Lines, Crete Carriers, FedEx Freight and others.

We believe part of the reason this occured was due to their inability to differentiate between me and my son... We both have the same first and last name.
This was an ongoing problem through out the 3 days we were there. Our information had been interchanged several times due to poor data entry.

After having been informed of their decision not to hire us they also told us that, although they orginally promised to re-imburse the amount the bus ticket would cost that they were no longer willing to do so. I was fully aware that if not hired, we would be responsible for our own way home.

WARNING - I have NEVER experienced such an unorganized hiring process in my life! Bear in mind that if you "apply" at USXPRESS the process does not begin until you arrive.

Through out the "orientation process" every single person is pulled out of the classroom for "corrections".
The person giving the orientation class will also leave constantly to perform other duties.

Every other company I have ever worked for processed the application first and only then would send you to orientation.

That is the point, RIGHT? To give you the tools and information needed to be a productive employee. It's difficult enough to retain the info you are presented with at orientation, but almost impossible when you are constantly being called out and when the person conducting the class is only there 50% of the time but is also unable to answer any questions during the process. He seemed intelligent enough, but was obviously only there as a "Talking Head" so to speak. All he did was read from pre-printed material.

I learned a lesson I should have already known. Make sure ALL the backround checks have been completed BEFORE going anywhere.

If anyone reading this still chooses to apply with this company all I can say is GOOD LUCK... You WILL need it!
