I rented an apartment from Hammack management for two years. After my initial 6 month lease ran up they wanted me to sign another lease agreement that was far more strict than my original. I refused, and my original contract turned into a month to month rental contract. After months of threats they raised my rent by $75.00 from $500 to $575. $500 was too much for a small 1 bedroom apartment in that area. My wife and I moved out on March 12 but paid to April 1.
Over the course of two weeks we moved the last of our stuff out and prepaired to clean the apartment. March 29 my wife returned to find the apartment cleaned and all of our personal effects missing including cleaning supplys, towels, vacuum and carpet machine. We contacted Hammack. They claimed it was a mistake and would return our things. We got our cleaning chemicals and vacuum back and were told we could check their storage unit the next day.
From that point fourth the refused to return my phone calls and written corispondence. If that didn't beat all the sent me to collections for $900 above and beyond my $500 deposit for the cleaning they did without my authorization befor my MOVE OUT day. I don't know how these people sleep at night. I would suggest never to rent form them and if you already are I would get a good lawyer on retainer.
