I was critic and whistleblower on the Alameda County District Attorney Tom Orloff, who covered up serious crimes (embezzlement of over $100,000, perjury, fraud) committed by his buddy, a local VIP lawyer named Martin Nakahara.
For reporting Nakahara's crimes and insisting Orloff take some action, I was repeatedly harassed and threatened by the Alameda County Sheriff's office.
The deputy who did the most to threaten me was Wayne Courand. Courand filed a false police report, claiming I had threatened a local judge, when the judge herself said no such thing.
Courand arrested me on the phony claims, and, when I objected, merely verbally, nothing physical, he twisted my fingers after I was handcuffed.
Later, I was at the courthouse holding a sign saying "The DA is a crook" and Courand and his partner came out to try to scare me away. They said "we just want to talk", but knowing how much they lie, I left, but came back the next day.
This time, when they came back out, I pulled a camcorder out from underneath my jacket, and when they saw that, they slinked away.
The District Attorney in this county is very corrupt in terms of protecting powerful people when they commit crimes. He never does anything to investigate or prosecute politicians or other VIPs.in fact, the FBI has been brought in to investigate two of the most powerful local politicians, Don Perata, (leader of the California Senate Democrats) and Ignacio de la Fuente (councilman and failed candidate for Oakland Mayor) but the DA's office has done nothing on the topic, as it does nothing in all other cases of corruption. One Oakland Councilperson used her staff allowance to hire her boyfriend's daughter as a full time aide, for $60,000 per year — while the girl was going to school full time in another state — clearly a fraud against the government under the laws covering this sort of thing — but the DA just sits on it, no charges are filed, nothing signicant will be done. Par for the course out here.
