My husband and I were moving in on October 1st into Avalon Apartments. We recieved a phone call stating that they were closed on the 1st for it being a sunday, and if we would like to switch it to that saturday the 30th. We had no problem doing so.
At move in we were to furnish our first months rent 719.00, our pet deposit 200.00, and a prorated 23.96 totaling to 942.96. This was our first Apartment. She was busy so she asked if we could go over our lease by ourselves. We did so and signed the form.
She gave us our keys and we went to our apartment. When walking in immediately we saw garbage, dirty floors, and the kitchen was a complete mess.in the dining room there was a huge candle wax stain that takes up most of the the dining room area and some on the walls and ceiling.in the master bathroom the toilet was filled with cloths resembling a t-shirt that had been lit on fire with ciggarette butts around it. Little tiny green balls were throughout the apartment on the ground and in the corners of the apartment. The fireplace was completely dirty with ashes.in the guest bedroom there was cracks and broken pieces all on the entry way of the door, and holes in the window screens.
We went back down stairs to the leasing consultant and told her about this. She got on the phone and after learning information that we were supposed to move in on the first, she proceeded to tell us that "they thought we were moving in on the 1st and they wouldn't have things done until then". The first was a sunday, there is no way they could have had things done by then!
After she realized she was in the wrong and that someone had contacted us. She came to look at the apartment and immediately got on the phone to try to get someone to clean it. She asked us if we could leave for about 2 to 3 hours to clean it. We came from 2 hours away and had no where to go, but in an effort to get our apartment cleaned we left.
We came back after 3 hours to find a complete mess again and a note from the cleaning lady, saying that she ran out of solution and would be back the following day (sunday). My husband and I had no where to go so we cleaned what we know we would need in order to stay the night there on the floor.
Sunday came, and no cleaning lady. So we just cleaned some more. Monday came around and I went into the office. They said that the cleaning lady was on her way. And that they would have the carpet guy come in and put in new carpet, and the maintainence guys would come in and paint the ceilings and the walls.
Cleaning lady came and only cleaned the nasty toilet. My husband and I were left to clean the rest.
Since then the maintainence guys came once took up our carpet/floor divider and took out our window screens in the guest bedroom. Said they would return that day, never did.
It is now November 15th, almost two months since we moved in. And nothing has been done about anything. The dining room is still a mess and I can not put anything in there until they fix it.
The maintainence guys have never returned we still have no screens and we are missing our covers for the carpet/tile coverings. We are also missing an oven rack.
I didn't pay rent this month. I started off thinking that if I don't pay rent until they fix it. Now I'm starting to think they will never fix it. Someone left a message on our answering machine saying that we need to pay rent.
What do I do? I was thinking of paying half until they fix it. I feel that if I keep paying my rent that they will never fix it. Any Ideas??
