Ripoff Grueling Hiring Practices

I was recruited by Hi-Line for a job opportunity. This opportunity required that I purchase a $38,000.00 Van to sale product from. I was to be taking over a territory that was suppose to be currently producing $3000.00 - $3200.00 per month.

The first part of the hiring phase has me fill out the application and then fill out a profile form. As well, they do a complete background check on me. As you move along the process, i am asked to ride with someone in a territory to see if i like the work. A few day later, i have an interview with the regional manager. Then i was asked to pre-qualify for the vehicle that i would need to purchase. (If i was fired or quit, i would be stuck with the vehicle until i could sell it.)

Now, after all this taking some two weeks or more, you are sent a dozen questions to answer, all digging deeply into your background. Then, if all is still well, you are finally asked to go to Dallas, Texas.

In Dallas, i was met very early A.M. And taken to the corporate office. While on the way i was told who i would be interviewed by and that i would also visit with several other people like human resources, customer service, etc.

Once i reached the headquarters, my day began with a grueling interview by the owner of the company. He wanted to know my entire life story, and then he questions your past mistakes, as if he has never made a mistake in his life. The entire time he has your file in front of him and checks of or writes down any inconsistency he notices in the file versus your own version.

Then you are led around like a dog to visit a few other non relative people.

Finally, it is lunch time and i go out for lunch with the VP of sales. He decides that stopping by Academy Sports to purchase some stop watches for his son's football practice is a bit more important than i am, and when i did finally sit down to eat, he tells me to tell him my life story. I was not able to even finish my dinner, for he ate while i told my story.

I was taken back to headquarters, where i visited and waited while the Owner and VP decided my fate. To say the least, when the VP finally came out and said that they wanted to think it over during the weekend, i knew at that point that i no longer wanted to work for this company.

When they did finally call the following Monday, the time was after 5:00 P.M. They left me a voice message that i was not a good fit, the VP had stated friday that i had too many past jobs.

Now i am not sure if any hiring laws are being broken here or not, though, you would think that with all the pre employment information, the two interviews, the ride along, the dozen or so written questions, along with background check, credit check, and reference checks, that this company could have at least saved me the agony and humiliation of having to fly to Dallas, and sit for a full day long interview process if the final verdict was only that i had too many past jobs. They surely could have made this decision much earlier. As well, the Dallas trip took 16 hours out of my life. I believe they owe me for those sixteen hours.
