ATT Wireless, Cingular ripoff dishonest roaming charges information to custome

I signed up with ATT Wireless for my first cell phone ever in September. They informed me that I signed up for a local plan and left me with the impression that this meant that I could call anyone in the US as long as I was in a big city and not get charged. They also informed me that there would be a roaming icon on my phone when I was roaming.

Anyways, my wife and I took our first trip since getting our phones to Houston for Christmas. After two weeks, we came back to our house and found a bill for roaming charges. These charges were about $1000 total.

We called customer care and were given the run around. They did credit our accounts by about $500, so we only have to pay $500 extra. However, we feel that this is $500 too much. We have been honest paying customers. We feel that they were the ones that misled us to begin with.

They claim that since our request is after 30 days of signing the contract, there is nothing they can do. They have not even acknowledged the icon problem. They basically just give us the run around every time we call.

I have even had some reps tell me that "It is hard to believe that you didn't understand what local meant". Well, sorry... I didn't. I want to remain a customer but feel that ATT and Cingular are robbing me and my wife $500.

We can barely afford to pay the $100 a month that we pay. Who knows how we will afford this? Anyways, their are some rotten policies and some definite lies that took place in our situation.
