Island Trader Vacations
Consumer Report

Previously filed complaint seems not to have made it on the board—maybe under Oracle Promotions or Oracle Travel Promotions. The monetary damages cited here represent the cost of our gas for travel to the site and do not represent the hours we spent at the "seminar" or reading the fine print and complaining.

My husband and I received a written notification of qualification for an "award" of 2 round trip airline tickets and 2 night stay at a Marriott Hotel in return for attending a vacation club meeting. I spoke with booking folks at 1-855-879-8217 and 1-877-313-3326, including x 113 Brent and Yvette. Each person assured me the offered tickets, etc. Were "free." (After the event, when I called for an explanation, I was told they never said "free, " rather "complimentary.")

We spent around 2 hours listening to a very convincing sales pitch for "Island Trader Vacations, " but we declined to join and left with our "free" vouchers. During our 1 on 1 "discussion" with the sales rep, I asked her (Jeanane) if she had any information that could verify the validity of the company and the offer. She said no, none, and walked off. She later returned and said there was information in the contract (not offered to us to preview).

The airline/hotel vouchers, from oraclepromos.com (see complaints under this company, too) were only available if activated. The only excluded items were "taxes, surcharges, or gratuities" and food (not activation fees).in order to activate the airline voucher, one was required to send $35. Each non-refundable $70. Each individual offer (hotel-$50, free gas, etc.) required an activation fee. Those who paid these amounts received additional offers in return (e.G., "upgrade" to buy one, get one free for another fee, fees to activate free gas and other offers—see other reviews).

Phone calls to both companies elicited referrals to the other and denials of any 'free" offerings. Island Trader Vacations had the nerve to call for followup feedback which consisted of them denying all culpability and repeatedly asking me what our annual household income was (the sales rep overheard that we did not disclose our true household income — we never do so to anyone other than banks, etc.). So you might want to add possible "sale of personal information" to the cost of these "complimentary" vouchers.

We escaped nearly unscathed, save the time, but some of our fellow seminar attendees actually paid for membership. If you are among those who trusted these folks, remember—you have 3 days to cancel a contract and can dispute your credit card! For those who trustingly sent in the activation fee, some have managed to get a refund (see other reviews).
