I bought an 8.75 hp Briggs and Stratton John Deere Mower JS45 mower 3 years ago. The engine cylinder was scarred and the replacement engine from John Deere costs over 80% of the cost of the lawnmower to replace. This is the 2nd ruined engine of the same type in a 2 year period. Briggs and Stratton uses a splash oiling system in this engine and anytime someone mows a yard or ditch at more than a 15 degree angle, the engine seems to starve for oil. This is the most powerful engine one can buy for a push mower with a 22" inch blade. John Deere puts an oil filter and uses full oil lubrication in their j46 model. This engine has failed me time and time again on four different lawnmowers that don't use a screw on oil filter that has full lubrication. Another Briggs and Stratton rip-off engine.
