Had a Verizon FIOS/internet account in 2008 and closed. I disliked the service and cancelled, PAID IN FULL ON MY ACCOUNT; credit report states "paid in full; charge off", account closed.
Suddenly, in I happened to notice we have a collection open on credit report by Verizon for $192.00. It is reported as of 6 on credit file as a collection for "failure to pay" and stating opened in 6 and I have not had their services since I paid in full in 2008. Never received any correspondence, calls, etc. I submitted all proofs of identity to them, many hours on phone trying to dispute, on my credit report I disputed also on credit reports too, merchant always says our account and verified. I am not sure why our former rental address is associated account but, we did not have Verizon at that address, they still have not removed from report despite their being no "open balance" through their billing company. The collection agency they referred me to has not had the account since 2011 they said and again, never sent anything to us at our current address they have on file. We receive continuous run-a-around each time we call. They sent us a letter stating not our account but failed to reference the account number on the letter (which is totally different from the "Old" former account I HAD). They said they instructed credit agency to remove the reported entry but each time I dispute the entry it comes back as "merchant verified." I am getting nowhere with Verizon and this account is definitely not from me or my husband and all our other credit is on time and in good standing. I asked to "dispute" the account as a collection under FCR and they send me from one customer service rep. To another to no avail!
