Verizon
Will ruin your credit

If you've ever had Verizon as your phone company and your account was placed in collections, be ware...

I filed a CH 13 Bankruptcy in Feb. Under current Bankruptcy laws, I was afforded an Automatic Stay protection from having my creditors continue their collection efforts against me. Reporting to a credit bureau is considered collection efforts and as such, is not allowed under Federal Bankruptcy laws and the FDCPA.

Verizon violated the Automatic Stay when they sold the account to a collection agency, who then reported on my credit report. Verizon then pulled the account back and placed it with a second collection agency, who did the same thing. This was AFTER my bankruptcy was filed and after Verizon had received notification through the courts about my bankruptcy. But they still violated it anyway.

Be very careful about this as you have certain legal rights afforded to you if you ever have to file a chapter 13. I am getting ready to file a motion in court to have Verizon and the two collection agencies involved, sanctioned for their actions. The punishment is that the court must award damages to me for this.

Just an fyi for those having gone through the same thing I did or for anyone who is going to file a bankruptcy.
