My son was going off to college and needed a phone service that would reach a small rural town. Nextel had that service, and it was evident by the map that they supplied that the town was clearly in the local service. This was discussed with the local rep that he got the phone from, and it was agreed that the places he was calling and from whom he received calls were all local.
After he got his first few bills, it was evident that the calls from college to his girlfriend, who also lives and works clearly in the local area, were considered to be long distance calls.
The 39.00 per month was turned into a 169 dollars a month for even though he kept the minutes within the number allowed with his plan. A when Nextel was called, they looked into it and concluded that the incoming calls were outside of the local range. We know that the girlfriend is always in the local area and so is he, but it is Nextel's word against ours.
We know that it is not true that they were outside of the local range all of the time, but every single call between them was long distance. It is reasonable to assume that even if one or the other did roam away from the local area, at least SOME of the calls during the month would be local, but all were billed long distance.
