On 1/23, I went to the Advanced HomeCare store at Westerchester Drive in High Point to purchase a lite weight wheelchair with elevated leg rest and price a lift chair (which I have a prescription for). When I entered the store, a salesman (Mr. Hawthorne) asked me if he could help me. I spoke to him about a couple items. There were two comsumers at the front to be check out and I spoke up and told him to go ahead with them first. Mr. Hawthorne asked me to try out the lift chair and he would be right back. After the customers had left, Mr. Hawthorne brought a lite wheelchair for me to try the fit of the chair. The seat of the lite wheelchair was about 2 inches short. I explained to him that the wheelchair would fit. Mr. Hawthorne stated that my insurance (UMR United HealthCare) would not accept both items. He would go for the lite wheelchair not the lift chair. I asked if he could look on the computor and see what percentage would my insurance would pay. He asked for my picture ID. And my insurance caRD. He told me that I had an account with them. He said I had to rent the wheelchair for twenty months at $20 per month, then I could purchase the wheelchair. I reminded Mr. Hawthorne I wanted to purchase the wheelchair not rent. He stated that he could not do that because Advance Home Care has a contract with United HealthCare. He never answered my question I asked. Mr. Hawthorne then told me to call (Advanced HomeCare Custmor Service) about my request. He walked me to the door. I called customer sevice and they told me about the same thing.
MY COMPLAINT is that I was refused the price information to PURCHASE a lite weight wheelchair for myself and salesman insisted for me to rent and then purchase the wheelchair.
