Consumer Report

In my complaint originally filed on 12/20 I stated that I received an unsolicited phone call from someone with a very heavy Oriental accent who said his name was Victor. He said his company had installed the software on my hard drive and/or had provided the certificates for my software - and for all computers operating with a Microsoft system. It was very hard to understand him. He asked if I have been having problems with my computer running slow (who hasn't?) or booting up slowly, and how long I have been using this computer. I told him 4 years. He told me that my computer had been sending messages to his company about the problems it was having. He then transferred me to a senior supervisor named John Greenfield, who was origiinally from India but is now living and working in Florida. I gave him control of my computer and he ran a scan using Event Viewer and some software that he called AMMYY (www.ammyy.com) He said that after 4 years the license protecting my software had expired but that he could renew it for me. His scan initially showed that I had 10,070 events under WHEA-Logger that were infected; as we talked and he ran some more checks this went up to over 11,000. This, according to John, could damage my RAM and my software drivers. When the scans were finally finished there was a box that said "Contact service provider @ world pc solutions." This was supposedly because they are the ones originally authorized by Microsoft to service or certify or whatever my software. He then brought me to LogMeIn Rescue, which he said would reactivate my software coverage. The cost for this woulod be $290 USD for 3 years coverage. When I objected to the amount he then said I could get 1 year of coverage for $133. When I still balked he checked with his management people and then gave me a special offer of 6 months coverage for $59. When I said I wanted to check them out first he brought me to their web site. I asked to see customer reviews and he attempted to find them, then said they must have changed the web page and removed them. I told him I would checkit out myself and call him back. He cautioned me about not waiting too long, that my computer could freeze up. I assured him I would not wait more than a day. When I got off the phone I Googled World PC Solutions, found a review link which brought me to usacomplaints.com. I can't say that this is a scam because I never bought anything or gave them a credit card number, but it sure does not appear to be an honest or legitimate business.
