VERY deceptive, automatic QUARTERLY charge of $99.95, difficult to end. Rip-off!

In Feb I fell for the free trial 14-day offer to use the services. I noticed on my credit card that I had been charged $99.95. Fine, I got caught. I cancelled something during that time but can't say for sure it was Ancestry.com. I was totally unaware that this would be a QUARTERLY charge.

I noticed I have been charged ANOTHER $99.95 on Sep 6. I wrote to say this had not been authorized, was sent an email to call another number. I called this number and the representativive said that since it was a quarterly charge I could not be refunded, and to cancel I would neeed to call them back closer to the next billing date of Dec. 6.

I said absolutely not! Cancel this now. I was given a speil about how wonderful the service was, blah, blah, blah. I got angry and said I want it stopped now. She said okay and I asked about a refund and she said they couldn't do that since almost a month has passed. (Even though the charge JUST appeared on my online card records but had a Sep 6 date)

I haven't used the service in at least 2-3 months as the only information about my relatives I could find out was that they were dead (which I already knew). She told me a refund was unattainable as they have no idea if I've used the service... Odd, since they make you log in, that they don't have recorde of usage. (It would be rare indeed for an internet service to NOT have records of usage.) I am totally ticked off and need to steam.

I'm sure many VERY serious geneologists can justify $99.95 every three months but the average joe (like me) cannnot afford to get caught up in this type of dubious subscription.
