On 12/17 I found myself talking on the phone about an email issue to what I thought was a department of Microsoft, but which I much later discovered is called Omnitech Support. After checking with Microsoft and being assured that they have no connection whatever with this company, I am satisfied that they do not. Yet another victim says that is how he found Omnitech. For that reason I have spent several hours asking Omnitech personnel how I could have found them, but they refuse to answer me. They appear to be posing in some way as being connected with Microsoft.
During that initial conversation they told me that I must have polymorphic corrupted critical system files which needed to be removed immediately. I pointed out that I have both AVG and Microsoft Security protection but they insisted that that was not enough, offering me a year's contract for $150.00. Unfortunately they had me convinced and I agreed to let them take over my computer. I have never received any kind of confirmation through email or otherwise of what transpired, nor a receipt of any kind.
When several days later the same email issues recurred, I checked my credit card statement to find their name and phone number, only to discover that my credit card showed a bill of $300, not $150. I then looked for reviews of this company, finding 20 bitterly unhappy victims other than myself since some time in none of whom have apparently received a refund or any other kind of satisfaction. My credit card company plans a fraud investigation and has blocked them from billing me further.
