Consumer Report

I received a phone call from a man, "Alex Paul" claiming he was with Microsoft. As noted earlier, he claimed my computer is "corrupted" and was in danger of crashing. He claimed that Microsoft would never let this computer operate with its license agreement. He wanted remote access, which I gave him and he began to show me all of the "corrupted files". I told him I was using Omnitech to keep my computer running properly. He said they are a scam organization. Several times I told him that Microsoft NEVER contacts its customers. He claimed I could search for a # for Microsoft on the computer and never find one. He said again he was with Microsoft and he wanted my email address so he could send me an email from "Microsoft" I told him anybody can have Microsoft for an email address. He downloaded several programs into my computer and then told me it would be $299/2 years for this service. I was really getting suspicious at this point. I told him I paid Omnitech $299 for the same service. He stated "he would refund that money to my card if I entered my CC#. Then said there was an international block on my card and to call my bank. Who actually called me a second later. I told them not to pay it. He wanted to try the card again and the same thing happened. I told them to close the account and reissue new cards. "Alex" was furious when I told him the account was closed and that I didn't want to go any further with this. After much heated discussion, I told him to disconnect. He said the session would end in 20 seconds, figuring I would leave the computer. Well, he was still there and he began to erase all typed communication, desktop icons (including some of mine) so I flashed the computer to disconnect him and he came back online to ask what happened and why I was refusing. He said he would be fired and had a family to support if I didn't sign up. I turned off the computer. When I restarted a while later, some of their programs were still on it. So that's when I made a few calls to several IT friends and they told me its a total scam. Omnitech is legit and continue to use it. They were the one that Microsoft directed me to when I CALLED THEM to ask about problems I was having. Don't fall for this one, I still don't know what damage was done to my computer. B
