I kept receiving pop-ups stating that my computer was infected with a trojan virus & i had to purchase this software because it kept shutting down my computer

I was on my PC & I kept getting pop-ups & "end program now" boxes that said I had to purchase this software because my computer was infected with a Trojan Virus & it would keep shutting my computer down until I purchased it.
