I purchased a MacBook from Best Buy, went home, opened it up and found the keyboard layout to be physically different from the standard QWERTY keyboard (later I found out the keyboard is French). I packed up the computer and took it back to Best Buy hoping for a quick apology and a swap for a Mac with a US keyboard.
I dealt with a Geek Squad guy who tried his best not to help me for about 45 minutes.
Then I dealt with the Geek Squad manager who tried his best not to help me for 30 minutes.
Finally the store manager tried his best not to help me and he succeeded: "store policy, sir, if the serial numbers do not match we cannot swap the computer".
They told me to contact Apple, which I have, and so far it seems like Apple will help. If Apple will not help me, my next step is to go to small claims court.
BUYER BEWARE: Open every item you purchase from Best Buy AT Best Buy and confirm that the serial number on the item you purchased matches the serial number on the box. If they do not match and you find out at home you're screwed.
