I purchased the magicJack which is a device you plug into you usb computer port and you can make phone calls from your computer and is only 19.99 per year. Great deal but problem is I can't use it as I have a relative in prison and he calls me collect and the call has to be billed to my phone bill. MagicJack is not able to bill me for these calls as there is no bill, you pay over the web with your credit card annually for their service.
So I tried to return the MagicJack and started filling out forms on computer to return it. The first few times the website to return the magicJack would not come up. Then when it finally came up and I filled out the info and sent it, I kept getting a message they had no record of the sale within the 30 day free trial. I am pretty sure I had not exceeded the 30 free trial but there is no record of my purchase on the computer so not sure. Regaurdless, I don't remember reading anything saying I can't return it after the 30 day free trial and they can resell it as it just plugs into any usb port. If you can return it within 30 days why can't you return it after 30 days. So I contacted someone over the web to discuss the issue as that is the only way you can contact anyone at MagicJack. No phone number is available on their web-site and the person I was instant messaging with to discuss the issue of why I can't return it would not give me a phone number to talk to someone about it as she indicated they are told not to give out the number. Also, when you call to order the MagicJack it is a computerized system that takes the order and when I called the number that was on my credit card all you get is a recording saying if you have any billing issues or technical problems the only communication is through the web-site.
What kind of legitimate business has only a PO Box for an address, no phone number on the web-site to contact a real person and tells their employess not to give out any phone number.
While the amount, $19.99 I am losing (as they require your credit card info to active the device and the automatically charge it to your credit card after the 30 free trial) it is the principal of the thing. Why can't you return it? There is no company I have ever bought or ordered anything from that I could not return until now. This, plus the fact there is no phone number, and if you can get the number from the credit card bill, you only get recording to go to the web site for communications and employees are told not to give out any phone number, makes me question the legitimacy of this company. It should be illegal to have a company that bans any human contact/communication or any customer service resolutions.
I am also going to file a report with the State Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau also.
So beware, if you order this poduct, you will never be able to talk to a person about any issues you may have with the magicjack or the billing process nor will they allow you to return it after the 30 day free trial even if you have problems with it. Don't give out your credit card information to them either or you will be automatically billed for the device whether you want it or not or you have a problem with it.
Companies should not be able to get away with not having a real physical address you cant go to or no usable phone number for doing business and talking to customers.
