MSI Rebate Scam, Taiwan, ROC Taiwan, ROC

After buying a NX8600GT-TD512EZ GeForce 8600 GT graphics card, I completed and sent in the $20 rebate certificate to MSI along with my original invoice/receipt and the cut-out UPC code they required.

I was very careful to comply with all requirements, as there were many warnings on the form that any mistakes would invalidate the rebate request. So many warnings that I began to wonder if in fact any rebates are issued at all. I even spent the money for USPS registration of the envelope, with proof of delivery.

Sure enough, I now have been informed that my submittal has been rejected for not having an original invoice attached, and "No resubmittal allowed".

Has anyone else been taken in by this "rebate" scam?

I've informed them that if they do not honor their rebate commitment to me, I will notify the Washington State Attorney General's Office of Consumer Protection.

Perhaps this forum is a better way to spread the word about MSI.
