I am a college student and I sold a laptop on ebay. The payment was confirmed through paypal on Feb. 18th so I shipped the item. The buyer claimed that he had purchased the item for a friend as a birthday gift and wondered if I could ship it. Being a nice human being I agreed to because it would save him time and money. So I shipped it to his friend (I have tracking and shipping confirm. Usps.com[cp597587744us]) on March 11th I was notified that the sale was under investigation by PayPal so I contacted them to see what was going on with it and they said that a stolen credit card was used to make the purchase, I thought great... Just great. So I checked today to see the status and the case was closed... Great! Or wait not so great because PayPal didn't cover me under the seller protection agreement.
So I am standing to lose $500 on this sale because PayPal won't cover me on this fraudulent purchase. They protected the buyer. Well the guy whose card was stolen. But because they guy sent me two payments they say they won't cover me on this... Ridiculous. There were two payments because one was for the item and the other was to cover extra shipping to send this item to the buyers friend. The sale was for $467 and it was sent through PayPal, a confirmed PayPal buyer. I feel as though PayPal has wronged me as a seller by not really trying to cover me for this scam. They even have made money on this whole ordeal and have left me out to dry. They say they are all about the seller but I feel as though they tried harder to find a reason not to help than to actually help me. The item was sold via the eBay system, the purchase was sent through the PayPal system... They are responsible to refund me for this. It was a confirmed address because if it wasn't the lady at the post office would have said something about it. So to me I was covered by everything. I took every step to protect myself from such an event happening and it still happened. 1) I received the payment through PayPal securely 2) I contacted the buyer about shipping, because I was going to ship to their address and they said they would appreciate me shipping it to their friend for a birthday gift (I have a heart unlike PayPal) so I was nice and cut down some costs for this guy and shipped it to his friend
3) I shipped the item insured and with tracking confirmation.
Bottom line PayPal is not about the seller, they are a greedy company only looking out for their interests, they are a scam.
