This is in regards to a Sony Viao desktop computer, model #VGC-V617G, purchased on March 18. The ticket # is 320302947692, paid for with Circuit City financing through Chase credit cards, with a purchase total of $1,476.56, sold by W. Howell at store # 3203 in Sarasota, FL. At the point of purchase, I was instructed that by opening an account with Circuit City (via Chase) that my financing structure would be such that I would owe no payments for the amount financed for six months, and that my account would accrue no interest for a period of 17 months. Apparently the financing options did include the above terms, but these terms could not be run concurrently, ie: I could either have six months no payments, OR seventeen months no interest.
Unfortunately, the representations made by the salesman at Circuit City were quite clear that I could in fact have both options at once. These options were stated three times to myself and Jeremy Jones, my Director of Operations. This purchase was made solely based upon this financing structure, as I have recently started a small business and was in need of equipment with minimal up front costs. Had it not been for the representation that I could exercise BOTH of the above options I would NOT have purchased this item. Upon bringing this to the attention of the local Circuit City via telephone I was told I could NOT speak with a manager, then proceeded to ask the customer service agent his name and he then told me "I don't have to give that to you", then hung up the phone. I then drove approx. 20 miles to the store and spoke with the manager. The manager told me that he was sorry and stated they have recently hired quite a few new employees and stated they may have gotten things mixed up. He then stated the only thing he could do for me is return the item and I would incur a 15% restocking fee. Obviously this is unacceptable. I have every interest in maintaining a positive relationship with Chase, however I only intend to honor the agreement that was presented at time of purchase. I have contacted Chase regarding this issue and unfortunately there is nothing they can do on there end. Meanwhile I have been instructed NOT to make payments until this matter is resolved. Due to this problem Chase has now disqualified me from receiving no interest and my interest rate is set at 24.24% which is ridiculous and unacceptable.
If you look up Circuit City on the internet you will find out they are notorious for misleading customers and practice shady business on a regular basis. What happened to just say yes and the customer is always right? They admitted they screwed up but couldn't give me my money back? This is a company who's CEO made $5.9 million last year! Huh Well I would greatly appreciate any help... The BBB didn't do too much. Circuit City had nothing to say to it. Thanks!
