I cancelled our peoplepc account in February. The woman I spoke to offered 2 free months of service because "you have been such a good customer." I declined, saying I would no long need or use their service.
We were billed for the monthly fee of $12.95 in March, were not billed in April, but were again billed in May. I called the 866 number today to find out why we were still being billed and spoke to a guy by the name of Chris. I gave my phone number, address, and last 4 of the credit card the account was billed to.
He stated that he could see on his computer that the account had been cancelled in February but that they would not credit the improper/fraudulent May charge to my credit card. I was not given a reason as to why they would not refund the charge, although I suspect it's because I was not given a cancellation number back in February. (From other instances I've read, having a cancellation number would have made no difference whatsoever. It's just a delay tactic.)
Chris then immediately denied having said that the account had been cancelled. He lied. Poor kid is scared he'll loose his job if he refunds my $13.
I told him that he and his company would be reported to the Kentucky Attorney General for investigation. I asked for his last name, which he refused to give. The contact address I was given is PO Box San Francisco, CA.
A fraud report has been filed with my credit card company. Their investigation will be very thorough, as many of their customers have had a similar experience with peoplepc. Avoid peoplepc at all costs. I don't know (yet!) how to actually get an account cancelled, but will post the method when I find out.
