Earthlink is a dishonest company!!! They lie about their DSL Service quite frequently. It's because they dont provide DSL service at all in certain areas. It started when My Wife and I relocated just recently to the Houston Area. See wanted Internet Service in the new location where we lived. The first company we thought of was Earthlink. We made a terrible mistake!!! My wife talked to a customer service rep in Washington D.C. Area. She asked the CSR did they have DSL Service in Texas, and the rep said yes. Here comes the hook. They wanted a credit card or check card no#. I was very reluctant to give it to the rep. My account wasnt even established, But yet Earthlink wanted a check card no#. I always do "direct billing", with any ISP provider. Earthlink said that I would be billed $19.95 a month, And if there was an cancellation that we would be billed $149.95. We asked the CSR repeatedly did Earthlink have DSL in our location, And he said yes we did. So now the real nightmare begins!!! We had to wait for a modem to be delivered to us. Earthlink has alot of CSR's in India and the Phillipines, And they cant speak a lick of English. Apparently a modem was being shipped to us, But it took over two weeks to get the modem delivered! The CSR's overseas are quick to get off the phone with you, because your English is too fast for them.
Once we received the modem, I hooked it up. Guess what??? No signal!!! My Wife and I spent the next two weeks, From India, the Phillipines, Kansas City, MO, and Atlanta, trying to get a Master Tech from Earthlink to provision the line. We where assured that the DSL line was activated. These people where extremely rude... Every time we threatened to cancel our service, Earthlink squirmed and assured us that the DSL service was activated. Finally we where fed up and had our services cancelled. We contacted customer service, to cancel services with Earthlink. The CSR assured there would be no cancellation fee. I also sent back the garbage modem to Earthlink. Three weeks had passed by. I thought everything was o.K., Man was I wrong!!! I just happen to go in my checking account, And $268.10 was missing from my checking account. I called my bank to find out what was going on. My bank told me that Earthlink.net did the transaction. I was pissed off!!! I happened to be reading some posts from other customers from usacomplaints.com about Earthlink. I was prepared to do battle. Earthlink continued with the lying. The CSR's where not honest at all. They try to give back partial refunds. I kept mentioning about" an unauthorized transaction". Earthlink lives on misinforming customers. I had to do an EFT Dispute with my bank. I also had to have my check card deactivated. I made the CSR in the escalation Dept in San Antonio, TX, To send me e-mail confirmation of my refund transaction.in that E-mail was the last 4 numbers of my check card. That is how the crooks took my money!!! A strong word of evidence to any customer who is thinking about using earthlink: HELL NO!!! Dont do it!!
