Complaint / Review
OnRebate.com - Tigerdirect.com - Tiger Direct
Lousy Customer Service, Long Hold Times, Buggy Web Site doesn't work with Mac, Rebate Ripoff

I bought a cable from Tigerdirect.com and it came with a $7 rebate. The one and only way to get the rebate form is to file a claim with the ripoff OnRebate.com. This customer unfriendly outfit is counting on the fact that their web site will not work and most customer will give up rather than fight for their $7. Hopefully, the Florida Department of Consumer Affairs or State Attorney General will institute an investigation into TigerDirect.com and their affliation or connection with OnRebate.com.

I use a Mac. The onreabte.com site would not accept the required date information. It did not say how to format the date, such as an example of MM/DD/YY or MM/DD/YYYY. It had a link to pop-up a calendar but the link didn't work on either Internet Explorer or Safari. So, without being able to enter a date, it was impossible to submit the form.

I called OnRebate and waiting over 20 minutes for a customer service agent. She didn't bother to acknowledge the web site deficiencies or conect me to someone technical. She just took my info over the phone and told me I could log back into the site and retrieve it later.

She told me (incorrectly) that I needed to use Internet Explorer. Well, even Microsoft will tell you that IE for the Mac is DISCONTINUED. Microsoft is not updating this software anymore. It's not even supported. Microsoft tells Mac users that they need to use Safari. It still amazes me how many companies refuse to test their code on a Mac or support Safari and write code that is Win-Doze centric.

While I was on hold with OnRebate on my cell phone, I called Tiger Direct to complain on my land line. The good news was there was only a short wait. The bad news was that while I was on hold on both phones I was hearing the exact same music on hold, which leads me to believe that these two comapnies are owned by the same people or in cahoots.

What a great marketing scam: Sell products at higher prices but offer a rebate that you make difficult or impossible to claim... Voila, lots of extra profit flowing to TigerDirect.com for all those people who got frustrated and said "Hey, it's only $7 bucks, screw it..." and just moved on. That $7 bucks was pure profit for Tiger and OnRebate.com

Tiger gives great service but do not make a buying decision based on getting a rebate, especially if that rebate is coming via OnRebate.com.
