Funds Frozen Over Linked Account After Nearly Five Years

Several weeks ago I tried to use my PayPal account and access was denied. I logged into my account and found it had "limited access." I called PayPal, and the agent did not want to reveal details to me. It had something to do with a "linked" account. I asked how my account was linked with someone else's. He said it was through an email address and named the ISP domain.

Last year I stayed with my daughter-in-law while my son was in Iraq, helping with the new baby, the new home and the other kids. In order to continue buying and selling on eBay, I had mail delivered at her address and used an ISP with the same domain name. My son returned from Iraq, I went home and updated all my personal information back to my home address. There were no problems for months, until now.

Because we have the same last name and had similar email addresses, they believe my account is linked to hers. I asked her what happened. She said someone used a credit/debit card number she had not even received yet, which was unactivated, to get money or use it via PayPal. She cleared up the problem with her personal bank account but never resolved the issues with PayPal and closed her account.

Unable to get money from her, they went after my account. I sent emails and called, but the agent was not helpful. I demanded to speak to supervisors. John at first told me I needed to get HER to resolve the PayPal issues and they would lift the restrictions on mine. That is not so! I told him this is PayPal's problem with her, not mine. I am an innocent bystander they dragged into this, and they had to overreach ethical business practice to do so.

Finally, after reviewing my problem-free account of nearly five years, John agreed to reverse the hold on my account. Later I realized I had not been given a time frame in which I could expect to access my funds, and I called back.

I bypassed the agent and spoke to Nicole, who asserted she is THE supervisor who makes these decisions and that John overstepped his authority by telling me that. She then took the same stance: get my daughter-in-law to resolve her PayPal issues and they would consider lifting the freeze on my funds.

I got angry. It is not my place to resolve their issues with her. My account is separate from hers. I know nothing about her account or what has actually happened. To link my account to hers based on similar names and ISPs is outrageously wrong.

Finally, Nicole said to give it 48 hours and check back. I had no choice. I again emailed my daughter-in-law and asked her to please continue working to resolve her issues with PayPal, and she told me they had sent her an email stating they had restored her status and removed the limited status.

Hello! She had already closed her account! My account is the one with the limited status! They have yet to email me that my account has been restored. Is this another PayPal mistake?

Before this is all over, I may end up having to sue PayPal to gain access to my funds. I am disgusted. I feel betrayed by them.
