Earthlink, Inc. Is the poster child for a class action suit. That will be their only reason to stop stealing from its customers. Earthlink.net and Earthlink, Inc. Operates by means of fraud, and deception coupled with fake disclaimers and false promises. I changed our DSL service to Earthlink's, in April. Since then, we be been overcharged by $20.00 (or more) each month for the first 6 months of "the introductory service" of $19.95.
This was followed by a $74.00 charge, which is considerably higher than the $19.95. After partial refunds, Earthlink's employees concoct fantastic stories of how they thought we had the 3.0 svc and not the 1.0 service, when their own web site is the only truthteller at Earthlink, Inc. To top it off, the last few months of overcharges were answered to thusly: 1) we'll refund the overcharged amount but you'll have to absorb the extra taxes; 2) we'll refund part of it and review the rest; and 3) we'll refund $30.00 of the $56.00;
None of their false promises and halftruths have come to fruition. Hence, Earthlink, Inc. Has effected a perfect scam once again. There's no real down side form them. As long as Earthlink, Inc. Keeps overcharging and double billing 2 million or so customers by $10 to $20 each month, their ill-gotten gains will net between $20-$40,000, 000 each month.
It's far better than any mob action, and the Federal Trade Commission will undoubtedly only act after a five or six more years passes by, and as the FTC claims, "... When more than a couple of hundred complaints come in about it. Then, we'll take a look at investigating them."
