I recently applied for a short-term loan online on 12/23/05. On 1/04/05, an electronic "check" was taken out of my account for the amount of $21.95. When I looked at the image of this "e-check" it said it was paid to: Roadside Plus for Roadside Assistance. There was a telephone number listed so I called them. I asked what this was about and she said I had signed up for a free 7 day trial and failed to cancel within the 7 days. I told her I didn't sign up for anything like this and I wanted my money back. She told me they couldn't give me my money back but they could cancel if I would like to cancel. I told her I definitely wanted to cancel it because I didn't sign up for it in the first place. I asked her how they were able to just take money out of people's account without permission and she said I had filled out an application. Which I did not. I tried to get her to fax me a copy and she couldn't. She said they would mail me a copy. I am still waiting for this so called 'application' that I never filled out.
If I had signed up for this 'roadside assistance' or filled out an application, shouldn't I receive something listing all the things I am covered for and a number to call? I work at a bank and check my account everyday or else I probably would have never known about this. So now I have a month of roadside assistance that isn't even real. That's bull!
What I did do about it was contact the Better Business Bureau and my state Attorney General's Office. One way or another, I will get my money back. Hopefully enough people will get together and file complaints and this company's 'doors' will be closed. It should be illegal to take money from peoples accounts without being authorized to do so. I hope everyone that has a problem with the FAKE 'Roadside Plus' 'Roadside Assistance' does something about it. Don't let them take your money. I wonder how many people don't even know this has happened to them. It's wrong!
