My Toshiba Laptop broke near the end of its' 3 year extended warranty. Best Buy has held it hostage now into the third month, hoping that the warranty will expire before repairs are completed (Or not completed).
They claim they can hold the machine forever if necessary while awaiting parts to fix it. Latest part needed is a "Restore Disk" which is not part of the machine, but a service CD. Every repair facility should have this, but I guess Best Buy is too small to have one available.
They have yet to address the problems with my machine. The display is defective and expensive to replace. So they are just dragging their heels on the repairs and not fixing the display while waiting for the warranty to expire.
The Corporate Customer Service Supervisor (Matt Lauer) told me today there is no "Estimated time to repair" available and that they "Reset the clock" on awaiting parts to zero each time a part is ordered. It does not matter... They at one point ordered a plastic cover and at another a screw. So delays are infinte with no end to repair ever, if they think the real repair and parts will be expensive.
I paid $250 for the extended warranty... Yet they keep saying that they will do the repairs "For Free". They have offered to return the machine to me, "BROKEN" and pro-rate the warranty cost. Great business... Wish I could collect money that way!!! Charge people for something, not perform then give them a small percentage back.
Do not buy performance sevice plan from best buy.
