4-01 I bought a computer at FRYs electronics and signed up with Earthlink for 3 years to receive a $400.00 rebate. I moved right after that and couldn't find my paperwork for the rebate. When I did find the paperwork it was one day past the deadline date. I called Earthlink and the refused to give me the rebate because I called past the deadline date.
In Oct I moved to a remote area and had problems with my DSL. I could not use it between the hours of 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. After numerous calles to Earthlink. I decided to cancel the service early and paid the 149.49 early termination fee. Right after that I begain receiving letters from my bank with Earthlink trying to deduct $549.49 from my account. (I did not have the money in there to cover the charge, good thing) I called Earthlink and talked to supervisor "Diana". She was very rude and told me I would have to pay the $400.00 refund because it was not up to them to make sure I received it. If they were going to charge me for it anyway why did it have a deadline date.
I was sent to collections, where I responded in writing. The first they did not recieve, so the second one I sent return receipt requested. I did not here back from them and considered the matter closed.
In Oct this year, I am again getting calls from collections now for a bounced check that supposably authorized in Sept 04 for a closed account. Yes the account I used for earthink I closed last year and opened one at my credit union. (I get a better rate on my car) After sending another letter to collections I now am talking to an attorney for check fraud. How can they get away with first trying to STEAL money from me and second LYING about me. I was happy with my Earthlink account when I had it, but now! I was a few months short of my contract date, I paid the early term fee. Now they are frauduently accusing me of chech fraud. Please think twice about doing business with Earthlink. They might seem great at first, but they will screw you in the end.
