First of all, it's good to know I am not the only one going through this! This company has the WORST business practices of any place I have ever worked with! Let me recap (if I can - there is so much!)
I joined Ladies Workout Express in May with my mother in hopes of slimming down for my upcoming wedding in August. I signed up for a 16-week program with a very C-L-E-A-R understanding that I would be financially responsible for the 16-week program but I could cancel anytime after that. Yet the owner continued to fill out a FIVE YEAR contract for me! I verified once again that I only had the 16-week program and was assured that the code he put on the contract would make the rest of the contract null and void. I believe his words were "Oh don't worry about this 5-year part... We have to fill it out for corporate, but rest assured, you are on for just the 16 weeks".
I was asked if there was anything that would prevent me from using the facility in the next 16 weeks. I explained I was in a serious auto accident in November and suffered lower back pain. I asked if he needed a Dr.'s note. I was told no. There would be personal trainers onsite to help me. Okay fine. I signed.
Boy was THAT a mistake.
Well time went by and because of the accident I could not use the facility without causing some major pain. So I stopped going. I paid through my 16-week trial and sent in my cancellation letter.
No response. Until I noticed my checking account was being deducted - nearly a year later!!! I immediately called the company and was told that I had to have sent in a letter. I said I did. Then they changed their story and said that I had to have gone to the facility 3x/week. I said I couldn't due to my back pain from my accident. I was told I had to have my doctor fill out a Verification of Disability.
Okay fine.
I went to my doctor - out of network mind you, and got it filled out. I am stuck with his doctor bill that I have to pay out of pocket because he wasn't covered under my insurance.
Faxed this paper to the corporate office. I was told they received my fax but it was a pre-existing condition and even though I still suffered greatly, it did not effect my contract term. WHAT THE??? So not only are they trying to stiff me with this astronomical bill and make me jump through hoops to cancel a contract - now I have a doctors bill I have to pay on top of it all!
So now they are in the process of putting this on my credit report and saying I owe them $800. I would be SO okay with escalating this to a class-action law suit against this company. This is ridiculous. If you all feel the same way, we need to ban together and prevent others from making our mistakes.
