The Aquatic and Fitness Center should be forced to change their actions and policies towards members.

As a long term member of this gym, I was appalled at the events that have occurred over the past year at this gym. My husband and I have paid on time in full every month, but that is not enough for this gym. Let me explain.

First: The trainer that I used frequently missed appointments. Despite my concerns, he was able to continue at the gym for months until enough members complained that he was borrowing money.

Second: There have been instances where the abundant cell phone use has almost led to physical confrontations. We were told that while there is a tiny sign in the gym asking members to speak in the lobby, that it is up to the members to confront other members about cell phone use. This only makes it an unpleasant experience for members and can put a member in harm's way. Employees do not enforce the cell phone "policy".

Third: After being in physical therapy at Aquahab, AFC's rehabilitation division, for months, I finally decided to go back to karate a few months ago. The first day back, I was immediately approached by someone who said I had to pay at which point I said, no problem, but it is my first day back (since my gym membership was on freeze during physical therapy), and I ran out of the house without my wallet. Three weeks later, I went back again (I travel frequently so I am unable to go to the gym frequently). Right before class started, the same woman dragged me out in front of the entire room. I was absolutely mortified. According to the karate instructor, they had been coming back asking if I had gone to any classes. They had not done this to any other karate member, just me. I spoke with Patti Bubnis, the woman's manager. Patti said it was she who told the woman to take this type of approach. So, basically, they are enforcing this action against one individual, me. They selectively "enforce" random "policies" to me only. If only they used this approach with the cell phone use. I began to feel like I was being harassed.

A few weeks later, Patti told me to stop using the side door to the gym since the individuals in physical therapy were upset. I thought that was odd since why would the physical therapy staff care? They have known me for years. I even wrote a letter saying how great the team was and how disappointed I was that there was such high turnover. When I asked them about it, they said Patti had specifically wanted to know when I used the door, no one else. It turns out Patti was lying. The "policies" are only being enforced with me and I have been subjected to very embarassing forms of harassment from this staff. I finally realized that there are two reasons why: Patti has mentioned to me multiple times that my husband and I pay very low membership dues and it is the new people joining the gym who pay higher rates and fund new projects at the gym.in addition, her staff has not been doing their job in enforcing the cell phone policy, and I mentioned this to the owner.

Essentially, the modus operandi at this gym is to harass lower paying members until they quit, selectively "enforce" "policies" with such members, and ignore policies that actually would benefit all members in general, such as enforcing not using cell phones.

When I spoke to Les Littman, the owner, he refused to apologize and was incredibly rude and abrasive. He confirmed my belief that the harassment was intentional by asking me to cancel my membership. Since I travel so much anyway, I decided to agree to it. Basically, I was pretty much forced to quit. This only leaves the gym very happy since now they can focus on bringing in more revenue.
