I submitted information online in search of individual health insurance. I received a phone call from a representative of Consumer Health Benefits Association (CHBA). The rep stated that I had been approved for health insurance through their company.
I was informed by the rep that their company was doing a special promotion in my state and only had a certain number of people they could offer this special insurance to at the special introductary rate. I was informed this was true health insurance and not a discount plan.
I was skeptical at first but the rep kept insisting and reassuring me that this was actually health insurance not a discount plan and their company had been in business for many many years but had only offered their insurance to big companies while not allowing individuals to purchase.
I was informed that they decided to branch out and sell to indivials and families and this was the reason for such a good price on such good health insurance coverage. I asked the rep over and over again stressing that I did not want it if it were a discount plan because I need health insurance and not a discount plan. I was again re-assured by the rep it was health insurance.
I agreed to try it out only if a guarantee of it being the coverage in which I was being informed of. I gave my information and billing information and my card was charged first month premium and a joining fee. The joining fee raised a red flag to me but again I was told this was because the company had just started offering this to individuals and this was the only thing they asked of to offer it at a good monthly rate.
A few days later I got my information packet in mail and to my surprise it was NOTHING of what I was told.in the packet it clearly states "this is not insurance". It only gives 30% at doctor's visits and the rep said it was an 80/20 insurance with my part being 20% of the bill. I was also told it would help cover my prescriptions at $10, $25, or $50 well this is not the case; they ask you to sign up for a seperate prescription coverage where you still have to pay extra monthly payments in addition.
None of the dentist and only a handful of doctors they list are in my city and I was told there were lots providers in my area that accept this "insurance". To add to that the rep said I could get up to 2 FREE eye exams per year and that is NOT true. Also, the rep said I could go to the hospital or ER and only have to pay $100 and they would pay the rest up to $5,000 and anything over $5,000 would go on a 80/20. Well that was a lie too!
Everything I was told about this supposedly "health insurance" was NOT true. I immediately called the company to question the lies I was told but all I get is an answering machine and I have left numerous messages and no one has called me back yet. Strangely though before I got my packet and I would call to check on the status of my mailed packet someone called me back within minutes.
Now they have my money I have their junk and they are totally ignoring me. If anyone from this company calls all I say is "BUYER BEWARE!"
I called a dentist office in a nearby city and they were familiar with this company and stated that even with this discount PLAN that I have purchased it won't save me much money at all. They referred me to another discount plan that some of their patients use and said it was much better and more reputable and that this company seems to be a ripoff!
I don't want a discount plan but a real health insurance and that is not what I got. Consumer Health Benefits Association gave me false information, ripped me off, false phone advertised, was very dishonest and with them not returning my calls they are very unprofessional and it is bad for their PR!!!
Stay away from their phone reps! They are liers!
