My wife and I have been plan holders of Mutual of Omaha Medicare Supplement Plan N for the past 2 years.By their own admission, they miscalculated the profitability of PLAN N and decided to first RAISE the premium by more that 50% in an attempt to force members to drop or change plans and at the same time discontinue offering PLAN N to new subscribers.
My wife and I decided to change to Plan G and filled out the applications (just as if we were first applying for coverage) to go through underwriting. I have to add we are very low users of medicare. My wife was approved for Plan G at a premium rate of $116. I was DENIED.
They denied me apparently because in November, I had a series of 3 shots for my Knees to relieve pain and delay or avoid surgery (the shots worked great). After Medicare payments to the Doctor, Mutual of Omaha paid a total of about $100. They DENIED me underwriting me for Plan G for 2 years because of these 3 shots! I am now forced to try and get coverage elsewhere OR pay over $155/month to them (subject to additional increases) for a lesser plan! The Underwriter was uncaring and rather rude when I called for an explanation. I would not recommend Mutual of Omaha to anyone as in my opinion, they motive is profits, not serving customers! I might also suggest that they started with Plan N at a low price to attract a bunch of new customers, possibly with the intent to increase rate and prevent customers from changing to lower cost plans.
