Product Failure/Rude, Evasive, Dithering Response - Medicine Cabinet

Robern makes beautiful products, and they are frequently sold in the finest stores. We bought one of their medicine cabinets as part of a bathroom remodel in 2008. We noticed a failure of the silvering along the edge of a mere after about 18 months. Robern immediately replaced all the mirrors after admonishing us about the threat posed by common household cleaners. Two years later, the same thing is happening again, and we treated this medicine cabinet with extraordinary care. It is not even used, for fear of damaging the mirror by opening and closing the cabinet. Nothing but a soft cloth and water is used for occasional cleaning.

By all appearances, Robern does not care about this problem. Their representatives have offered to sell us replacement doors, with some verbal mentioning of discounts. Let's keep in mind that we had to make a large hole in the wall to install this cabinet. We placed considerable trust in this company when we installed one of their products. At this point, we are not talking about a one time purchase. This is a large cabinet with three moving mirrors, and it appears that they all need to be replaced on a regular basis— had a cost of hundreds of dollars every two years. This is unacceptable.

We have asked for replacement product, installed at the expense of Robern, or a full refund of our original purchase price. This is an expensive and beautiful product, and Robern advertises quality and reliability (substance and style as they put it).

Our request is completely fair, as we would not have purchased and/or installed this product if we knew it was not going to last. The quality of this product is misrepresented by the company.

We have a clean and well cared for home, and this mirror is in a bathroom with proper ventilation that is well maintained. The medicine cabinet we purchased does not meet reasonable consumer expectations.instead of genuine concern, we have gotten stumbling and mumbling, and vague suggestions that somehow we have done something wrong.

We had nothing but a cheap mirror in this bathroom before, and it survived 15 years with no damage whatsoever. Robern sold us a defective product, and they are refusing to take responsibility. Consumers need to know; they say they have a one-year warranty, and they mean it. Customer representatives have informed us of this fact. They have no expectations that these stunning (and expensive) products will last more than one year. Buyer beware.
