$300 Security "Deposit" that really isn't a "Deposit"

When I first set up my account with Directv I knew that I did not have the best credit rating so I knew that I would probably be asked to pay a security deposit. However, security deposit means to me that they will return the deposit or apply it to your account after a period of time. When you move into an apartment you are asked to pay a security deposit with the caveat that when you leave you will get back that deposit less any damages that need to be paid for. When I cancelled my Directv account I was told that the "deposit" would not be returned. I was never told this upfront, they out right lied to me and hid the ture nature of what their "deposit" was.

From the very first I was not happy with the installation, the installer called me and told me he had to run a personal errand to his bank so he would be late. When he did arrive I told him that I did not want the dish mounted to the house, guess where it ended up. I could not believe when after he left I could not get the receivers to work, after numerous phone calls to the company someone finally told me that I couldn't turn off the wall switch in the bedroom that the power had to be on at all times. At no time did the installer tell me this one critical piece of information.
