Daughter started account with direct TV 2009 at some point had to return dfective equipment. She returned it and had tracking # and had to call many times and prove with tracking #. Was charged for non-return of equipment / account never credited till account went into default then funds were taken out of bank account w/o premission which caused overdraft fees. She disputed the charges with her card holder then the Direct Tv account was credited for the return of equipment. But Direct TV then charged for the fees charged from the bank and appilied those fees to what was owed on the Direct TV account. Direct TV was in error for not appling credit to the account for the returned equipment in the first place that created the bank card dispute.
NOW THIS IS THE KICKER - Today I was contacted by CBE a colections company saying that I was the account holder. This is the first I have heard of this. My daughter started the direct TV service through Direct Sat from a flyer in the mail. The account was to be set up as a friends and family so she told them my name. What is funny is the information passed on to direct TV has me as the account holder w/my SS#. No one ever talked to me for permission and my daughter does not know my SS#. I do not give it to anyone and it is not on paper anywhere for anybody to get it is in my head. I was advised by Direct TV to contact the one that worte the contract which was Direct Sat. I contacted Direct Sat and gave them my daughters phone # and they addressed me with my daughters name then when I questioned them how I became to be on the account that is when I was told they have my SS#. I taped the conversation and advised them that it was being taped. So I ask how did Direct TV connect the two of us with two different last names? I have an account with direct TV. But what is the most funny of all is my daughter an I did not talk about this till today. A few years ago I returned my equipment for it being defective and I was charged for the non-return of equipment and had to jump through hoops in the same manner as she did. I had to come close to cutting off my right arm to prove that I returned the equipment and wait months to be credited with my service being interrupted for lack of full payment and the account was past due only because of the equipment charges. How does that happen two people in different towns, different last names but the same family, have the same experience with the same company and it was never any conversation about it till years later. Why you ask because after spending so many hours working harder for my money than I had too work for my money at my job it was exhausting I and she did'nt bring it into our conversation of our normal everyday stressful days. Why waste more time on BS.
I would have never been in this mess if it was'nt for the fact that Drect TV is going after me for #477.53 on my daughters account. If I thought it was possible for my daughter to give them my SS# then I would strangler her but you cant give something you don't have. Ask your self just how much money is direct TV is making off of thier errors. They mess up then patrnize you by giving you free movie channel for three months and you forget to call an cancel after 3 months and now you are paying for something you really dont want and your bill starts growing slowly till it is out of control then you call them. I see it. Or extorstion When they bill you for equipment you returned run the bill up high threaten to disconnect if you don't pay if you do pay then holding your money for months that's a lot of interest. Now that is how to make your money grow. Totally feeling took!
I have sent a letter to Direct TV disputes to demand that my SS# and fianacial responabity be taken off my daughter account and my credit record reflect the correction. I will up - date as soon as I hear anything.
