We originally only wanted to purchase an 8gb ipod touch but enquired about a few other items. Those being a Sony reader, pocket edition and a Sony ipod docking station.
The ipod touch (originally priced $199.99 reduced to $139.99) is the only item that I do not have any issues with other than the fact that they sold us an adaptor that was not needed (obviously they do not know the products that they sell).
The Sony reader that we were shown was a blue ish colour and looked like the correct one, I was told that it was priced at $399.97 but as they were in the process of conducting an inventory check it was reduced to $249.99. We decided to buy and the conversation that followed was such that a 4gb memory card and UK adaptor were being supplied 'free'. When moved to the other side of the shop the Sony reader that was supplied was silver in colour with a cover - we were told that this was the newest version.
Next up was the Sony ipod docking station which again we were told was priced at $699.97 but was reduced to $489.98 due to inventory taking place.
For all items we were charged $1099.31. This was paid in cash and on visa.
Upon returning to hotel I discovered that my husband, back in UK, had bought another ipod docking station. I therefore returned to the store asking for a refund. I was told by salesman that it would not be a problem he just needed to contact his boss to authorise and asked that we return to the store at 7pm. This was not suitable therefore it was finally agreed at 1pm on the Thursday.
Upon returning to the store on Thursday 3rd Dec I was told by two salesmen that a refund would be no problem but that they just needed to contact the manager to authorise.
After half an hour there was no sign of any manager so the original salesman telephoned him and then handed the telephone to myself to talk to him. This man was very rude and was shouting at me and then refused to authorise refund stating that I should take an exchange.
What I did notice that when the salesman phoned his boss that one of the other salesmen went out of the shop when his mobile telephone rang and did not return until after my call was finished. This happened on another occassion when I instructed the salesman to call him again. I challenged the salesman asking if that other salesman was infact the manager? He stated 'no'. Further to this he advised that the manager does not like giving refunds of payments made by Visa. I even stated that the Visa regulations are the same in the US as they are in the UK but still they would not move.
The salesman stated that he felt bad and offered a free camera to me.
Upon returning to the UK I found out that the Sony Reader, Pocket edition actually retails at $199.99 and that the model number of the product supplied is in fact the oldest version and not the newest.
The Sony ipod docking station retails at $250.
This company are nothing but a bunch of thiefs. Who seem to think that they are outwith the law and can de-fraud customers without any comeback. This has to stop.
I intend on disputing the Visa transaction and withholding funds to this shop for as long as possible.
If there is a US Trading Standards then they need to take urgent action against this company.
In addition the US Law need to start investigating them for fraud.
