Dell had a 24" widescreen monitor special - $199 a piece. I ordered two. I then realized that was probably too good to be true so I checked the specs on the monitor. Sure enough, it was 1900x1080 instead of the standard 1900x1200. I went to order status about 5 minutes after I ordered it and it said In Production, shipping 3 days from now. No cancel option.
Called customer support. They said they couldn't cancel it because it was "In Production." I told them I just ordered it 5 minutes ago. Round and round. I told them I would tell the bank they refused to cancel it. She said she wasn't refusing, she just couldn't do it. (WTF?!) I explained that by not being able to do it, she is refusing.
So now I gotta try to catch the fedex guy and refuse the package. What a pain in the ass. I learned my lesson a long time ago never to do business with Dell. I just relearned it.
On a side note, a buddy of mine who just bought an Apple MacBook was frustrated that they came out with a new version that was better and cheaper a month later. Apple said they would take his old laptop and give him a new one and PAY HIM the difference.
Some companies will survive this economic condition, some will not.
