New Install 24 HR Cancellation window is a lie!

I signed up online for service and was told I had 24 hours to cancel if I did not like the service. I paid $318 for equipment.

The install went off without a hitch on 5/23.

The HD-DVR equipment did not work to my expectations. It was very slow (like going from a Core 2 Duo computer to a Commodore 64). The on screen guide takes 24 hours to populate so you can't even tell if it will work for you in the time they gave you to cancel.

I called the morning of 5/24 to cancel. I was told that was no problem, they would send out a kit to return the equipment. I asked about my $318. They said that was non-refundable. No refunds on equipment after the install.

I said I would just keep the equipment and still cancel. They said the $318 was a lease fee and if I kept the equipment they would charge another $480 to my credit card. I asked for a supervisor and was told that the person I was talking to was the supervisor.

I could understand them keeping a portion of the money to pay for the install time, but not the entire $318. Be very cautious dealing with Directtv!
